New Year Newsletter 2019

Counselling:  There were 135 new referrals during 2018. Once again, thanks go to our counsellors; Amanda, Annabel, Bebe, Beckie, Carole, Christine, Emma, Helen, Kate, Mandy, Sue, Tracey and Sarah, John and Nigel, and our supervisors; Sarah and Brian who have continued to give their time and skills. Our Diploma trainees were all successful in their exam. Congratulations go to them! It has been a challenging year for some of our counsellors, due to illness and bereavement, which has limited the number of counselling hours we have been able to offer. Beckie left the island in the summer to start her teacher training course and we thank her for her support. We continue to have a waiting list for counselling.

Training courses: The Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies started in April and completed in November. Hopefully, our Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling will be able to go ahead next April. It is a 2-year course with 420 hours of tutor contact time and 120 credits towards entry on to a degree course. All the courses are awarded by CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body). The courses are attracting people, who want to enhance the work they already do or are considering a change in career.

Another Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is starting in January with a good number of students. There is ONE place left. Please check our website www.philippi.org.gg.

Diary Date: Our next Philippi Trust International Conference will be in South Africa in May 2019.

Continuing Professional Development  (CPD): Hazel Barton, the Barnabas trainer, led 4 days with her Deep Release trainer hat on. The topics were 2 days on an Introduction to Gestalt, one day on Practical Skills on Inner Child Work and another day on Practical Skills in Attachment. They were very well received and hopefully, we will be able to offer more days in the future.

Fundraising: Friends of Philippi Guernsey:  Christmas 2016 saw the launch of Friends of Philippi Guernsey, as part of our efforts to raise money to help fund our on-going training programme. Quite a few people have started supporting us and we would be delighted if you would like to join in by donating a small amount (maybe on an annual basis). If you If so, please contact us for a membership application form and a blank standing order instruction form. Any donation, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
